How to enjoy the Seniors Card benefits you’re entitled to
Are you over 60, a permanent resident of Australia living in Victoria and love a discount or bargain?
If you meet the eligibility criteria of a Victorian Seniors Card, you’re entitled to enjoy a wide range of discounts and concessions on entertainment, shopping, food and travel.
This article introduces some of the many benefits and savings available to you.
Seniors Card scheme
Each state and territory of Australia has a Seniors Card scheme. Although each state issues its own version of the Seniors Card, some reciprocal arrangements do exist for using your card across other states. The card is available free of charge to all eligible citizens.
To be eligible for a Seniors Card you must:
- be a resident of the state
- be aged 60 years or over
- not work more than twenty hours per week in paid employment.
Seniors Business Discount Card
If you are aged over 60 years, and working 35 or more hours per week, you may be eligible for a Seniors Business Discount Card.

The best place to begin your search for discounted goods and services in Victoria is on the discount directory. The discount directory includes more than 4,000 businesses offering savings to Seniors Cardholders and can be found at www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au.
Public transport concessions
All Victorian Seniors Card holders are entitled public transport concessions. Discounts and specials include free travel during the Victorian Seniors Festival in October and cheaper off-peak fares on V-Line travel.
A number of entertainment providers offer seniors’ discounts. Here are just a few examples below.
Village Cinemas offer $8 movie tickets to Friday morning screenings for Senior Card holders who join the free Vrewards program.
At all Dendy Cinemas, seniors’ tickets are just $13, or $10 for members, and include free coffee, tea and biscuits.
The Melbourne Theatre Company offers discounts to Wednesday matinee shows for Seniors Card holders.
The hospitality industry welcomes seniors and a number of cafes and restaurants offer discounts. Here are some examples below.
The Coffee Club offers 10% off the bill for Seniors Card holders.
The Langham Melbourne offers Seniors week day lunch from $49 and dinners from $69.
The Pancake Parlour offers 10% off food and drink for holders of the Seniors Card.
Discounts on local experiences and travel further a-field
Below are some examples of local experiences and travel organisations that offer discounted prices for the over 60s.
The Immigration Museum provides free entry to Seniors Card holders.
Escape Travel offers a $100 discount for each booking of over $2500 per person.
Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens are free to visit for Seniors Card holders.
Allianz provide 10% off comprehensive international policies to Seniors Card holders.
Goodyear Airport Parking offer 20% off the standard rate to Seniors card carriers.
Thrifty Car Rental provide 12% off car and truck rental, show your card at the counter.
Who doesn’t love a retail bargain? Below are some examples of retailers that look after seniors with pricing.
Mister Minit offer 10% off all heel and sole repairs for Seniors Card holders.
Specsavers provide 25% off 1 pair of glasses from the $179 range or above, Monday to Friday only.
Visit New Zealand
A reciprocal arrangement between New Zealand and Australia means you can now use your Seniors Card to access discounts in New Zealand. Savings will apply when you present your Seniors Card at participating New Zealand Super Gold businesses. Consult the Super Gold businesses directory for further information.
Senior visitors from New Zealand can use their Super Gold cards to access benefits while in Victoria. The arrangement between Victoria and New Zealand excludes the public transport benefits available to Victorian Seniors Card holders.
Age friendly partners program
The Age Friendly Partners Program addresses some of the consumer issues and social inclusion barriers that may affect seniors. This program involves large corporations including Telstra and AGL and is available to all Seniors Card and Seniors Business Discount Card holders.

Concessions for eligible veterans
In Victoria, a wide range of concessions are available for eligible veterans, war widows and their dependents. These concessions may include reduced costs for local council rates, water, gas and electricity bills, public transport and vehicle registration.
