Media Release. Beleura Retirement Village in Mornington has been awarded the Department of Health and Ageing National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award for a purpose built detached dwelling at the Master Builders National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards for 2012.

The Award recognises the project as one of the best examples of building and construction across the country in 2012. Constructed by Retirement Communities Australia, Beleura has been awarded for intelligent design and construction which enables residents to maintain an independent lifestyle through retirement.

CEO of Master Builders Australia, Wilhelm Harnisch, said the facility addresses a very important and growing demand.

“As Australia’s population ages, our housing requirements change significantly. Most  Australians do  not  want  to  enter  retirement  by  going  into  a  nursing  home.  They  want  to  maintain  their independence for longer and facilities such as Beleura Retirement Village allow them to do so.

“It is a very important consideration for the industry and something it has addressed over the past decade. Intelligent  design  and  construction  is  crucial  for these  dwellings  to  allow  the resident  to feel comfortable and at home throughout the various stages of retirement.

“Whether the retirees are in the early stages of retirement and are still mobile,  or later on when they  may  encounter  mobility  or  accessibility  issues  – these  dwellings will  suit  their  needs,”  Mr Harnisch said.

The Beleura Retirement Village boasts 186 villas that set a prime example of dwellings that allow independent living for seniors.  All  villas  are  accessible  without  steps,  bathrooms  have  no-step  entrances  into  large  double showers, the living and dining spaces are open plan and provide direct access to private terraces – helping people with mobility issues.

Kitchens are fitted with easily accessible under bench draws for storage and are fitted with stone bench tops and easy clean cupboards, helping the resident maintain independence by being able to cook and clean for themselves.

The  Village  also  boasts  a  stunningly  landscaped  grounds  and  gardens,  with  a  resort  style clubhouse, bowling green and heated indoor pool and spa – allowing residents to exercise, relax and socialise near their homes.

Master Builders is pleased to partner with the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in sponsoring the 2012 National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award, which acknowledges builders  who  deliver  high  quality,  practical  and  liveable  family  homes  that  are  adaptable  to  the changing lifestyles and needs of older Australians.
