Beleura Village Mornington - End of Year Roundup
The red carpet was rolled out as the stars arrived to perform at the second Beleura Village Concert recently.
Residents in the Mornington village are accustomed to enjoying an incredibly busy and diverse range of social options within the village. This year, the concert committee programmed a highly professional variety showcase of musical, dance, comedy and theatrical acts that had the audience variously in stitches, in tears and enthralled.
“The arts bring the community together,” said organiser and MC Graham Sherwood. “We have so much talent here - many in the audience were surprised at how accomplished our performers are.”
Known among Mornington Peninsula folk as the “party village”, Beleura Village is populated by people who know how to have fun. Most of the annual calendar events are celebrated with in-house events. Melbourne Cup Day, Grand Final Day and Halloween were all marked with events organised by the tireless Social Club. On Cup Day, the residents stepped out in style at a luncheon complete with sweeps, chicken and champers and prizes for fashions on the field. On Grand Final Day they made the most of the wintery conditions fireside and enjoyed the game on the big screen. The ghouls came out in force for the Halloween Party with witches, zombies and spooks dancing the night away.
Social Club President, Margaret Thompson laughs, “There is so much to get involved in, people have to remind themselves they live in a retirement village. In fact, sometimes we need to take a vacation to have a rest!”
With only a couple of weeks remaining before Christmas, the village is busy preparing for the final couple of events of the year.
